Wooden I-joists - Nodal solutions - Floor in stick built homes
Wooden I-joists are great as a ceiling in a timber house.
I-joists are installed on top of the beam and attached to it with nails or self-tapping screws at an angle for a more reliable connection. This scheme is used if the second floor of the house is built using frame technology. |
I-joists installed through the grooves in the walls. There are two ways of installing i-joists. It depends on the thickness of the walls. If the wall is less than 8 in thick, then the i-joists should overlap each other. if the wall thickness is more than 8 in, then the i-joists join inside the wall end to end. |
If i-joist cannot be installed on the top of the wall then brackets (i-joist support) should be used. In this case, the i-joists are installed on the i-joist support, which in turn is mounted to the wall using nails or self-tapping screws |
In the case when it is necessary to install an i-joist outside the building (balcony, truss), and there are heavy loads on that part, the i-joists are reinforced with sheets of plywood or OSB. |
